Dear all,
In response to Rodney's e-mail:
1) A motivation for the proposal to invite Chuck Stevens, which may seem a
bit of an unexpected choice:
I was at the Salk last week and Chuck Stevens gave a great talk on a
theoretical analysis of the spatial distribution of dendritic and axonal
arborizations. What makes this so special is that there was a big
data-mining aspect to the talk: Chuck went into NeuroMorpho.org database
and used the neuronal reconstructions available in there to validate his
theoretical predictions. This is
what the field really needs: strong data-mining applications, especially,
as in this case, by high-profile scientists. I am sure that, if he
accepts the invitation, we can ask Chuck to devote a bit
of time to comment on the data-sharing and data-mining aspects of his
work. At present this work is unpublished.
2) Workshop A status: one of the speakers will be an American computer
scientist for which we have 2 potential candidates. I will hear both of
them speak next month in Okinawa and will then invite the best speaker of
the two.
Best,
Erik
