Hello,

The ORCID scheme (http://orcid.org) does not seem to have got much
attention, yet it may help many of us. To quote their website:

ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you
from every other researcher and, through integration in key research
workflows such as manuscript and grant submission, supports automated
linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that
  your work is recognized.

You get a public record, e.g. here's mine:
http://orcid.org/0000-0001-8607-8025

It takes 30 seconds to sign up: https://orcid.org/register
>From there you can easily add your publications:

1. Go to "My Orcid Record" (once logged in)
2. Click on "Import Works"
3. In the overlay that pops up, click on the title of the import wizard
of your choice - e.g. Europe PubMed Central.
