Dear colleagues,
The Wellcome Trust funded Open Source Brain initiative is organising a
meeting in London on 6th & 7th November focussing on open source
modelling of detailed cells and networks from the cortex:
http://www.opensourcebrain.org/projects/osb/wiki/Meetings.
This has been inspired by the fact that there are a number of published
models of neocortical cells and networks which are being reused &
extended by different groups worldwide. An example is the
thalamocortical network model of Roger Traub and colleagues from 2005.
Versions of this model have been developed in parallel in NEURON, MOOSE,
NeuroML in addition to the original FORTRAN version.
We aim to start a process where this model and other widely used models
will be available in open source, well tested, standards based formats,
and will be available for the whole community to use and extend for
their research.
This will be a hands on coding meeting with all output available
immediately in the public domain. Researchers can of course keep all of
their code for analysis and investigating new research questions
private, but will benefit from the core model definitions being stable,
and tested by multiple labs.
Regards,
Padraig
