The University of Tampere (www.uta.fi) in Finland is an active academic community with a faculty and staff numbering roughly 2,200. The university’s values emphasise creativity, shared responsibility, academic freedom, and equal opportunities for learning, knowing, participating and influencing.

BioMediTech (www.biomeditech.fi) at the University of Tampere invites applications for recently graduated PhD researcher or experienced doctoral student for a year term with potential for extension. The planned commencement date for the position is 1 September 2016 or as mutually agreed.

The NeuroGroup (www.uta.fi/bmt/institute/research/narkilahti/) in the area of regenerative medicine in the University of Tampere focuses on producing both neuronal and glial cells from human pluripotent stem cells. The aim is to characterize the produced cells by their gene and protein expression and specifically study the cells’ maturation and electrophysiological functionality both in single cell and network levels. Co-culture systems containing several cell types in 2- or 3D are also established. The group focuses on applications in e.g. in vitro modeling of biological processes and neurological diseases, graft development, and neurotoxicity screening platforms.

Purpose in this position is to develop analysis tools for electrophysiological data. The specific topics of research project will be discussed in detail during the interview of the selected candidates.

The successful applicant has solid experience in biomedical digital signal processing, analysis and programming (especially MATLAB), previous experience of biological data analysis, and good knowledge of related statistical analysis. Previous experience of electrophysiological measurements (in vivo, ex vivo, in vitro) are an advantage. Good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English are required.

Salary is dictated by experience (the job demands level 3-5) and personal salary element according to the Salary System of Finnish Universities.
