The Institute of Cognitive Science of Osnabrück University invites
applications for the position of a Full Professor of Cognitive Modeling
(salary level W2)
The Institute of Cognitive Science is seeking to appoint an internationally
recognized researcher contributing to an enduring enhancement of its
national and international collaborative network.
Description of Responsibilities:
In research and education the successful applicant will represent
the field of Cognitive Modeling in its breadth with an emphasis on the
interface between symbolic and sub-symbolic neural modeling.
She/He is particularly expected to contribute modern methods of
probabilistic modeling of cognitive functions into the cooperation with the
existing working groups at the Institute of Cognitive Science.
The successful candidate takes active part in teaching at all levels
of the Cognitive Science study programs (BSc, MSc, PhD). Therefore, a
central precondition is teaching experience and expertise in all
subdisciplines of Cognitive Science. Specifically, the successful candidate
does not offer only specialist courses, but also courses covering cognitive
modeling applied in the full breadth of Cognitive Science. The Institute of
Cognitive Science offers international BSc/MSc/PhD study programs and all
classes are taught in English.
Required Qualifications:
Qualifications include a university degree (at the level of a Master
or PhD) in Cognitive Science or directly related areas, proven pedagogic and
didactical skills acquired from practical experience, outstanding ability of
autonomously pursuing scientific work, usually proven by an excellent PhD
thesis together with additional academic achievements according to § 25
Abs. 1 Nr. 4 a NHG (e.g. Habilitation).
Special Requirements:
In particular, it is expected that she/he has thorough knowledge as
well as a coherent research program in the modeling of cognitive abilities.
International experience acquired from employments at universities
and scientific institutions abroad as well as international collaborations
are highly appreciated.
Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of both the
English and German language.
