Dear all,

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the Growing Up in Academia<https://www.aesthetics.mpg.de/institut/veranstaltungen/veranstaltungsreihen/growing-up-in-academia.html> (GUIA) series! We’ve secured three outstanding speakers for the rest of the year, and I wanted to give you a heads-up so you can mark your calendars for these incredible online events:

  *   Ghislaine Dehaene-Lambertz – September 30th, 6 PM
  *   Anil Seth – October 28th, 6 PM
  *   Johannes Krause – November 25th, 6 PM

Each of our speakers is not only a highly accomplished scientist—having unlocked mysteries of the infant mind, our evolutionary history, and even the question of whether machines can be conscious—but they are also exceptional communicators. With popular TED talks and successful science books to their names, they offer diverse insights and career journeys that will surely inspire.
I’m excited to host these amazing speakers and to have all of you join us for this final stretch of the GUIA series.

Best wishes,
Lucia Melloni

Ghislaine Dehaene-Lambertz is a distinguished French neuroscientist renowned for her pioneering research on infant brain development and language acquisition. As a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the NeuroSpin center, she investigates how newborns and young children develop cognitive abilities, particularly in language and perception. Using advanced brain imaging techniques, her work has revealed how infants' brains are wired for language from birth, providing deep insights into the early stages of human cognition. Dehaene-Lambertz’s research bridges neuroscience and child development, contributing significantly to our understanding of how the brain shapes learning from the earliest stages of life.

Anil Seth is a leading British neuroscientist and professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex. Known for his groundbreaking work on the nature of consciousness, Seth explores how our brains construct reality and the self. His influential research integrates neuroscience, philosophy, and artificial intelligence, offering new insights into how we perceive the world. Seth is also the author of the popular science book Being You: A New Science of Consciousness, where he explains complex concepts in an accessible way. His work has significantly shaped contemporary discussions on the science of consciousness and the brain’s role in shaping our experiences.

Johannes Krause is a renowned German archaeogeneticist and director of the Department of Archaeogenetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. His pioneering research focuses on the genetics of ancient humans, shedding light on human evolution, migration patterns, and interactions with extinct species like Neanderthals and Denisovans. Krause is best known for his role in sequencing the genome of early hominins, which has transformed our understanding of human ancestry. His work has also explored the genetic history of ancient pathogens, offering insights into historical pandemics and their impact on populations.
